Simultaneous thermal analysis (setline STA)

Simple & Powerful

Simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) is the combination of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) or differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The mass change and heat flow change can be obtained once measurement on one instrument.

APPLICATIONS

Calcium oxalate monohydrate (CaC2O4,H2O) samples were measured by mass loss (TG) and heat flow (DSC). From lower temperature to higher temperature: dehydration, formation of calcium carbonate and formation of calcium oxide. This simple case highlights the application of thermogravimetric analysis in quantitative measurement.

Analysis of synthetic rubber components.
The sample was heated to 600°C in two steps under an inert atmosphere (N2) and then cooled to 400°C, and the atmosphere was switched to air, the sample was heated to 800°C after holding for a period of time. The TG curve has three mass losses corresponding to the decomposition of plasticizers: oil and wax content (3.6%), elastomer content (57.9%) and carbon black content (38.7%). The remaining mass at the end of the experiment corresponds to the ash content of the rubber (<0.5%).
